Hi, I’m setting up my mac as a localhost server with apache and mysql. I have Xampp and Joomla installed but I’m getting an error with the Mysql:

#1 – Can’t create/write to file ‘/var/folders/fj/fju5XWCEE0mhkUMmDOtbRU+++TI/-Tmp-/#sql1c7_32_0.MYI’ (Errcode: 13)

I tried reinstalling Joomla. That didn’t work. I have all permissions set to read&write. Something to do with a tmp file? Can you help?

I have been using Apache for some time in a windows setup but the MAC is a new toy to me so initially I opted for the easy solution MAMP. However this is a much better solution and provides a fun way for me to explore the MAC.
This is a brilliant tutorial and I look forward to reading your other tutorials. I hope yo will continue to add to them

I’ve recently moved to mac and just got around setting up my dev environment on my Macbook. I’ve gone through SCORES of sites to handle my AllowOverride and apache settings locally.

Your instructions were very helpful, though a little more restrictive Options? (Options -Indexes -Includes -ExecCGI) lest us noobs should copy paste directly

mysqladmin -u root password new_password

very important to set the root password
